According to Dr Fox, the main benefit of Zovirax is that you can stop the multiplication of the cold sore virus. So, if you are having a headache, you'll most likely have a cold sore if you're having it for the first time. If you're having cold sores, Zovirax may also help to decrease the pain and inflammation associated with the cold sore. It also reduces the risk of spreading the cold sore to other people. If you're using Zovirax, Dr Fox suggests that you should keep an eye on your symptoms for a few days after using the medicine to see if it's still effective or if it might be more sensitive to your health condition than other medicines.
One of the clinical studies that was published in The Lancet looked at patients who were prescribed Zovirax for the treatment of the initial and recurrent cold sores. One hundred and six patients developed cold sores within a year of treatment. One hundred and eight patients were randomized to Zovirax or a placebo. Overall, there was a significant improvement in the initial stage of the cold sore when the sores first developed. In the recurrence of the disease, the relief was greater in the Zovirax group. Other clinical studies that looked at the use of Zovirax in patients with advanced cancer found that there was no significant improvement in the disease when Zovirax was used in combination with surgery.
Dr Fox extensively reviewed and confirmed that this medicine is effective in preventing the spread of the virus of the cold sore. In the study that was published in The Lancet, 101 patients with cancer received Zovirax cream for 5 days. In the recurrence of the disease, the patients who used Zovirax cream for 5 days were far more effective in preventing the spread of the virus of the cold sore. However, other clinical studies that looked at the use of Zovirax in patients with advanced cancer found that there was no significant improvement in the disease when Zovirax was used in combination with surgery.
